New Brand – Kunkeei

Intrigued by the delicate, yet tenacious, nature of flowers, Karl Kristian Bergman Jensen and his research team set out to discover how these plants thrive and adapt in the face of adversity. This led them to the hypothesis that the presence of a wide range of beneficial bacteria regulates the balance of the different microorganisms in the flower, ensuring the health, structure and survival of the plant cellā€™s structure. They discovered that these good bacteria came not only from the flowers themselves but also from microorganisms originating from honey bees.

Natural ingredients and herbs have long played an integral role in Creative Director and Co-Founder Charlotte Deckmannā€™s life. Growing up on a farm in Jutland, Denmark, a deep-rooted respect for nature was instilled in her from an early age. By sourcing homemade, health-promoting recipes and remedies from the land around them, Charlotteā€™s mother taught her firsthand the benefit of plants and herbs. This innate understanding of nature and its resources continues to inspire Charlotte to this day.

Charlotte has a BFA in Graphic Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. After completing her degree, she went on to work in the creative department of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, where she was able to combine her interests in beauty and design. She became inspired by Bobbi’s passion for helping women feel confident through accentuating, not covering up, their natural beauty. In those years Charlotte gained a thorough understanding of how the beauty industry works. After 10 years in New York, Charlotte moved back to Denmark, where, in 2015, she began working with Karl Kristian.

Charlotte is in charge of product development and works closely with the laboratory in Paris to create formulas of the highest quality. Charlotte is responsible for the encompassing vision of Kunkeei including all design and branding.

INVESTED IN SCIENCE

With 30 years of industry experience under his belt, Karl Kristian Bergman Jensen is the owner of a company that has developed several award-winning herbal supplements and beauty products that retail in over 40 countries. His passion for well-researched health products is what drives him to delve deeper into the science behind effective and truly transformative formulas. Thatā€™s why in 2014, in cooperation with The HEPIA institute in Geneva, Karl Kristian and his researchers initiated the work to reveal the microbiological secrets of flowers, bees and bee products. As this was the first time that the complete microbiota was mapped, this groundbreaking research resulted in articles in scientific journals and patented lactobacillus strains, including strains from lactobacillus kunkeei. Alongside these investigations, the team collaborated with world-leading scientists to research the microbiome of the skin. It was concluded that just as a flowerā€™s microflora is essential to its survival, the skinā€™s microflora is instrumental to maintaining balance and healthy cell structure.

TIMELESS SKINCARE

Charlotte and Karl Kristian recognised how their knowledge and experience translated into a beauty brand that truly recognises and understands the skin’s microbiome. Having both witnessed firsthand the incredible complexion-transforming properties of plants, they set out to establish a line of products that focuses on reaffirming the natural beauty of all. In 2017, with an experienced skincare laboratory in Paris, they worked to create a regime to better preserve and enhance the skinā€™s natural ecosystem by addressing the imbalances at the root of most skin concerns. In 2021, after years of research, development and testing, KunkeeiĀ® is ready to transform complexions. By combining cutting-edge science with natural ingredients, the Kunkeei line of products focuses on restoring equilibrium with uncompromising natural formulations, empowering you to feel comfortable in your own skin.
